Taylor Milton Grabs First URSS Feature Win at DCRP

For the second race in a row at DCRP, the “Young Guns of the URSS” have strutted their stuff to claim their first Feature win. Sixteen year old Taylor “Tay Rocket” Milton relied on the high side and rim rode the cushion on his way to his first URSS Feature win Saturday night in Dodge City.

Kinsley Kansas’ Darren Bowman led the field to the green but back in the pack CJ Johnson got together with another car causing him to come back across the track and collected John Colbert and Randy Washburn who unfortunately took tumbles on the front stretch with Washburn landing on top of Johnson’s car. Colbert and Washburn were done for the evening, but Johnson was able to continue.

On the restart Bowman quickly took the lead with Dodge City’s Keefe Hemel and Milton hot on his heels. McCook Nebraska’s Darren Berry passed Milton for the third spot on lap five only to have Milton claim the position back on lap eight. Johnson who had restarted the race at the tail end of the field quickly worked his way through the field to take the fourth position from Berry on lap nine.

With Bowman in the lead, Milton set his sights on second place Hemel and took the runner up spot on lap fourteen. Lap seventeen saw Johnson take over the third spot from Hemel. Milton kept the pressure on Bowman as he used the cushion to his advantage and on lap eighteen Milton took over the lead. Lap nineteen saw Johnson make his way to the runner up spot relegating Bowman to the third position.

Ninth starting Brian Herbert moved his way through traffic to take the fourth spot away from Hemel on lap twenty-three. Johnson put the pressure on Milton for the lead but Milton used lapped traffic to his advantage and held Johnson at bay. As the white flag was shown to the leaders, Herbert got around Bowman for the third spot. As the checkers flew it was Milton picking up his first URSS Feature win with C. J. Johnson, Herbert, Bowman and Hemel rounding out the top five.

The Weld Racing Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to  C. J. Johnson who came from his tenth starting position to grab the runner up spot. 

The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “B Feature” was won by Jeff Crook.

Heat Race winners were Brian Herbert, Keefe Hemel and C J Johnson.
