Taylor Velasquez Grabs First URSS Feature
Win At “Boot Hill 1000”
The Memorial Day weekend
URSS Double Header at DCRP finished with the “Young Guns of
the URSS” putting on a show as the Rebels ran a caution free
25 lap A-Feature to cap off the weekend. Mother Nature tried
her best to delay the racing action, but for those fans who
stuck it out Turpin, Oklahoma’s Taylor Velasquez rim rode
his way to Victory Lane to score his first URSS Feature
Event win.
Liberal’s Ty Williams lead
the field to the green and took the lead with Velasquez hot
on his heels. Outside pole-sitter Randy Washburn grabbed
third with Ken Lutters and Darren Berry rounding out the top
five. Berry made quick work of Washburn and set his sights
of the leaders. Eighth starter Ray Seemann worked his way
past Lutters to grab the fifth spot on lap five and quickly
took the fourth position from Washburn on lap six.
Lap eight saw Tanner
Mullins work his way from his twentieth starting position to
grab the tenth spot to challenge Mike Woodruff for the ninth
spot. Up front Williams and Velasquez used the high line as
Berry and Seemann worked the low line as they all wove their
way through lapped traffic. By lap fifteen, Mullins had
moved up to the eighth position and was battling Tyler
Knight for the seventh spot. Lap sixteen saw Velasquez make
the pass on Williams for the top spot and Seemann take the
third spot from Berry.
As the laps were winding
down, Mullins continued to use the high side to make his
move as he took the sixth spot from Washburn and set his
sights on fifth running Brian Herbert. As the white flag
flew for the leaders, Mullins used lapped traffic to grab
the fifth position from Herbert. With the fans on their
feet, the checkers fell and Velasquez picked up his first
URSS Feature win. Williams, Seemann, Berry and Mullens
rounded out the top five.
