Hagans Takes Second URSS Win At WakeeneyAfter taking the win at the “305 Challenge” Saturday night in Dodge City, Lacrosse native Kirby Hagans picked up his second United Rebel Sprint Series victory Sunday night as 28 cars pulled through the gate for the Rebels very first visit to the Wakeeney Speedway in Wakeeney KS. Ransom’s Ken Lutters led the field to the green with outside starter Randy Bantam from Norton grabbing the early lead followed by Lutters, Justin Schwien, Hagans and Arnett Oklahoma’s Kris Miller. Bantam held the top spot until Hagans made the pass for the lead on lap three with Schwien challenging Bantam for the second spot. Tenth staring Jon Johnson had wove his way forward to take fourth away from Lutters on lap four and set his sights on the lead. Johnson would take over second on lap seven from Bantam and Schwien and start to pressure Hagans as twelfth starter Cody Salem worked his way up to battle Schwien for the fourth spot. Johnson took the top spot away from Hagans on lap nine only to have Hagans regain it one lap later and start to pull away. Jetmore’s Ray Seemann worked his way from his ninth to fifth by lap ten and joined a heated battle between Johnson, Schwien, and Salem in which the foursome traded positions lap after lap as Axtell Nebraska’s Doug Roth came from sixteenth to eighth by lap fourteen and joined Dodge City’s Brian Herbert and Bantam in the battle for sixth. As the laps wound down, Hagans had the lead in hand as the battle for the runner up spot heated up with Schwien, Johnson and Seemann swapping the positions back and forth until Hagans took the checkers with Johnson, Schwien, Seemann and Salem rounding out the top five. The Weld Racing Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Brooke Boyd who celebrated her 20th birthday by starting 20th and charging to 9th. Heat race winners were Keefe Hemel, Justin Schwien and Jon Johnson.
