Ken Lutters Takes First URSS
Win at Lamar
For the third time in as many races the
United Rebel Sprint Series made it debut at a new venue and
had a first time winner make his way to Victory Lane. The
Rebels pulled into Prowers County Motorsports Park Saturday
night and after the checkers flew, Ken Lutters from Ransom,
KS prevailed to take his first URSS Feature win.
Lutters led the field to the green and
got the jump on Woodward Oklahoma’s Kris Miller to lead into
turn one followed by Bill Hays from Elwood NE, Hill City’s
Jeff Radcliffe and 9th starting Jon Johnson in
fifth by the end of lap one. The top five positions stayed
the same until lap seven when Johnson and eighth place
starter Smokey Fairbank passed Radcliffe for the position.
Hays, Johnson, Fairbank and Radcliffe
waged a fierce battle for the next eight laps for the third
position before Fairbank took the position for good on lap
14 and took off after the leaders. Jeff Radcliffe took over
5th position one lap later when Johnson tried to
use the high line in turns 3 and 4 to pass Hays. Up front,
Miller was all over Lutters trying just about everything to
get the position but could never make the pass for the lead.
Fairbank also joined into the battle for the lead in the
closing laps but had to settle for third with Hays and Jeff
Radcliffe rounding out the top five.
Heat winners were Jon Johnson and Jeff
Radcliffe. The Weld Racing Wheels “Hard Charger” of the race
was Smokey Fairbank, who started eighth and finished in the
third position.
